The Dragon ELT Reform Project


The Dragon ELT Reform Project of the Department of Languages and Literatures, Tsinghua University was set up on May 20, 2010.

Back in 1998, to reform the English teaching in China, the Ministry of Education of China called for doing research on a national level. Tsinghua University took the lead. Led by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Tsinghua Elementary School, Tsinghua Middle School and Tsinghua University Press joint to run an English teaching reform project named “A Dragon Project of Teaching English.” By doing research on teaching English as an integration from elementary school way up to the tertiary level, the project aims to reach the general English teaching objective with each stage accomplishing their own contributing objectives.

The project has been funded by the China National Social Science Foundation, the Ministry of Higher Education, 985 Project of Tsinghua University etc. and have made highly recognized achievements and enjoy high reputation nationwide. Over the years, the project has caught attention from all the influential media and got reported, including CCTV, Beijing TV, Tsinghua TV, Beijing Daily, China Daily etc. Journals such as Foreign Language Teaching and Research, Foreign Language Teaching Schools, People’s Education, IU International (the Indiana University overseas Journal) etc.

The Dragon ELT Reform Project is well under its way and will continue to strive to do research on English language teaching and apply theories into teaching practice.
