Entry Requirements for International Students to PhD Program

Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures

 

1.        Minimal Requirement for Educational Background

The university from which the applicant receives his/her undergraduate education should meet one of the following conditions:

·           one of the top 200 worldwide

·           one of the top five in the applicant’s own country

·           one of the top 50 worldwide in terms of the applicant’s major

(Reference to the rankings by Times Higher, QS, US News, ARWU, and etc. is recommended.)

2.        Minimal Requirement for Degree

The Applicant should have already obtained a Bachelor’s degree or guarantee to obtain a Bachelor’s degree before September 1st of the enrolment year.

3.        Minimum Requirement for Undergraduate Average Score

(Since different countries have different grading systems, conversion to any one of the following systems is recommended)

·           GPA: 3.5/4;

·           Average Grade: B+;

·           Average Percentage: 85%/100%

4.        Minimum Requirement for Chinese Proficiency:

·           Japanese program applicants should have passed HSK band 4 with a score of 195 or above;

·           English program applicants can be exempt from the HSK certificates.

5.        Minimum Requirement for English Proficiencyfor non-native English speakers:

Japanese program applicantsTOEFL: 80/IELTS: 6.5

English program applicantsTOEFL: 90/IELTS:7

6.        In addition to the requirements listed above, applicants should also submit the following materials.

·           Two References

·           Statement of Purposes
